Upcycling with a Cause

Arc en Ciel is a local NGO that strives to promote development in Lebanon through countless social and environmental initiatives. When the organization initially approached us in 2015, we took this project head-on in an effort to raise awareness around this amazing NGO by cooking up a creative way to raise funds. Together, we came up with a truly eclectic concept: La Brocante des Artistes, an occasion based on auctioning off upcycled everyday items into pieces of art. This event perfectly represented Arc en Ciel’s continuous efforts in sustainability, upcycling and recycling.

La Brocante des Artistes’ mission is to breathe new life into forgotten objects with the help of local artists, who re-imagine them through their own creative whims. When it came time to choose a location to display the art, the Arc en Ciel team went for a traditional house located in the heart of Beirut: Villa Asseily. The Matisse Events team then worked on transforming this villa into a modern-day gallery fit for the whole family. Over a period of four days, patrons were able to walk through the enchanting Villa, and shop for vintage items, each created by artists from different backgrounds. From graphic designers to product designers and even painters, the talents of Lebanon were truly on display. Our main objective was for visitors to get completely immersed in the NGO’s mission and purpose. So we pushed the idea of an exhibition to the next level. Throughout the event, visitors had the chance to grab a drink, lounge, converse, and all in all, spend an enjoyable afternoon while learning more about Arc en Ciel in a joyous and stimulating atmosphere. We even put together a photo booth installation that emulated a traditional Lebanese living room, in which guests could commemorate their fun afternoon. The silent auction took place throughout the entire four-day-event, giving patrons the time to bid for their favourite art pieces. By the end of it, all funds collected went towards the many Arc en Ciel initiatives striving to make for a better Lebanon, including sustainable agriculture, social support, youth empowerment, health and mobility.
