Italian Coastal Love

Nothing beats the Mediterranean: the sun, the sea, the food, and above all else the warmth of the people. It’s always a welcomed challenge when a couple asks us to reproduce this magical setting, and this was no different for Lyne and Abdallah’s wedding. Even though the bride and groom have lived in France for the last couple of years, the sunny Mediterranean always occupied a place in their hearts. So the happy duo came to us with one request: “give us a lively Mediterranean wedding straight out of the Italian Riviera.”

The Matisse Events team transformed the grounds of the Phoenix Hotel in Byblos, Jbeil, one of the oldest cities in the world, into a Mediterranean dream. It was very important for us to take guests’ breath away the moment they stepped into the wedding venue. From the get-go, we worked on building custom wooden arches that we set up above the dining tables. The team took hours upon hours dressing up these bent structures with different details that hinted at Italian coastal cities. Among the succulent greenery that filled out these arcs, guests laid their eyes on luscious bougainvillaea flowers that injected shades of pink and yellow, a nod to the infinite sunsets of the balmy sea. The Mediterranean is not only known for its flora, but also for its lifestyle and delicious food. Instead of escort cards, the bride and groom invited guests to play a round of beach bats in order to find their assigned seating. We also paid homage to this invaluable bounty as we set the table: placemats alternated between being a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. From lemons, thyme, olive branches, and grape leaves, not a single spot was left vacant at the dinner table – a direct hint at the region’s generosity and hospitality.

As a small nod to the couple’s native Lebanon, locally handmade glass vases were also placed upon the appetizing tabletops. With the help of Faqra Catering, we scattered various food stations throughout the venue, each embodying one iconic staple of Mediterranean cuisine. Family and friends had the chance to savour on their choice of mouthwatering pasta, an assortment of traditional Italian cheeses, delectable olive oil and seasonal fruits. In true Italian fashion, the celebration lasted through the night, with the guests toasting the happy couple at every occasion.
